Split View

Split View puts a single page of your PDF alongside your list view, so you can read the script and work in the cue list at the same time. Turn it on from the View Settings icon at the right of the toolbar, the same menu that holds the single and double-page layouts.

In Split View you can adjust the size of each window. Layers that are visible on the PDF page will also be visible on your list view. Please note the List Sync check box at the top of the list view side. This will keep your list view in sync with the cues on the PDF page. That sync only works in one direction, so if you scroll your list view it will not affect the PDF page. However, you can click on any page number in the list view to jump your PDF script to that page.

Auto Number

Auto Number works in two different places, and they do two different jobs. In script view it numbers cues for you as you place them. In list view it renumbers cues you have already made.

In script view

This is the one to use when you are building a show. Once it is switched on, every cue you place is numbered for you, so you can keep working down the script without stopping to type a number.

It is set up layer by layer. Open the Layers menu, click the expand arrow next to the layer you want, and choose Edit Cue Properties. Switch on Auto Numbering and two fields appear.

The first is your Starting Number. If the layer already has numbered cues in it, this field is labeled Next Number instead, because that is what it is: the number the next cue you place will receive. The second is the Interval, which is how far to count on each time. An interval of 1 gives you 1, 2, 3; an interval of 10 gives you 10, 20, 30, which leaves you room to slot cues in later. Both fields are required, and the interval must be greater than zero.

From then on, each cue you place takes the number in that field, and the field advances by your interval so it always shows what is coming next. Because the number is listed in the panel, you can change it at any point. If you reach the top of act two and want to start again at 200, type 200 into the field and carry on; the numbering picks up from there.

Three things worth knowing. It only applies to cues you create, so it will never renumber work that is already on the page, and it will not touch a cue you have already given a number to. It is your setting, not the project’s: each collaborator has their own auto numbering and their own next number for a layer, so two people can number their own cues in the same layer without colliding. And it is per layer, so you can have your lighting layer counting in tens while your sound layer counts in ones.

In list view

Auto Number in list view renumbers a selection of cues for you, rather than one at a time. In this view, you can renumber across layers if you so choose.

Using the check boxes on the left side of every cue (or the “all” check box at the top), select the cues you would like to auto number. Once you have chosen your cues, press the Auto Number Selected Cues button at the top. This will bring up a preferences box asking for a Starting Number and an Interval, the same two values as above.

Please note this auto number tool will overwrite the previous numbers on any selected cues.

Page Mirror

Page Mirror follows another person’s PDF page, so that when they turn a page, your script turns with it. It is built for a room where one person is driving: the rest of the team can watch the script move without touching anything.

You will find Mirror in the toolbar, showing OFF until you choose someone. Click it and you will see everyone else currently in the project, with the page each of them is on. Choose a name to begin following, or Off to stop. If you are being followed yourself, the control tells you how many people are watching your page.

Turning a page yourself switches Mirror off, so you are never fighting the person you are following. Mirror also pauses while the person you follow is in the middle of editing, and picks up again when they move on.

Both people need access to this feature for it to work, in both directions, so it is best switched on for a whole team at once rather than one person at a time. Read-only collaborators can follow along, which is often exactly who wants to.

Structure in List View

This shows your script’s acts, scenes, and songs in the cue list as section headers, so the list reads in the shape of the show rather than as one long run of cues. The sections also carry through to your CSV and ETC Eos exports.

It is a display of structure, not another place to author it. Acts, scenes, and songs are still added on the PDF with the Structure tool or through Manage structure.

Section headers only appear when the list is in document order, which means sorting by Page, ascending, or working in Split View, which is always in that order. Sorting by layer or by cue reorders the whole list, so the sections would no longer describe what is beneath them and they are hidden until you sort by page again.
