Cuelist is the brainchild of Josh Epstein and Beth Johnson. As a lighting designer who has spent thousands of hours in theaters over the last 20 years, Josh always wondered if there wasn't a better way to share information and collaborate while sitting in rehearsal. For the last few years Josh and Beth have taken that question and put it to action with a team of developers to create the first program designed specifically to help stage managers, designers and backstage crew communicate and collaborate during the development of live performance events.
Josh Epstein is a lighting designer for theater, opera and dance as well as environmental and event spaces.
He has worked regionally at the Guthrie Theater, Mark Taper Forum, Goodman Theater, Geffen Playhouse, Kirk Douglas Theater, Philadelphia Theater Company, Pasadena Playhouse, Baltimore Centerstage, Trinity Rep, Playmakers Rep, Paper Mill Playhouse, Long Wharf Theater, Lyric Theater, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Actor's Theater of Louisville and The Alliance Theater. Opera work includes productions at Minnesota Opera, Ft. Worth Opera, Opera Saratoga, Opera Santa Barbara, Wolf Trap Opera Company, Berkshire Opera festival and the Manhattan School of Music. He has also served as an associate lighting designer on several Broadway productions.
Josh received his BA from the University of Chicago and his MFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He has served as a lecturer at Sarah Lawrence College and currently teaches at UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television and the USC School of Dramatic Arts. Josh is a Los Angeles Ovation Award Winner, a recipient of the 2004-2006 NEA/TCG Career Development Program for Designers and a shortlisted designer for a Knight of Illumination Award in 2018. Josh currently serves on the O'Neill Playwrights Conference Artistic Council. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and three daughters.
